Save Our Park Board

About HCC

Dear Hastings Patrons:

You may be aware of Mayor Ken Sim’s plans to abolish the democratically elected Park Board.

Before this, there was no consultation with grassroots organizations, including Community Centre Associations, user groups, or the public. In fact, during his election campaign, Mayor Sim said he would not get rid of the Park Board.

Parks and community centres need Park Board commissioners; their sole mandate is the preservation, protection and development of parks & recreation programs and facilities in our city.

Without an independently elected Park Board, the greenspace, public space, and land under the stewardship of the Park Board are at risk.

As the final decision is up to the Province, we are asking for your support in making your opposition known to Premier David Eby and to the MLAs. Please use this link to send a message directly to Premier David Eby, Municipal Affairs Minister Anne Kang, and your MLA.

We hope we can count on your support to retain our elected Park Board.
